I was trying to find a perfect velvet sofa that was not boring for quite some time. To my great disappointment, they all looked alike or mimicking each other. I was looking for something exciting as well as decent quality. Then I discovered Comfy and fell in love with the whole collection. All thirteen styles are playful and, most importantly, comfortable. My Favorite Sofas – Annie, Betty, and Fulham
My favorites are Annie, Betty, and Fulham. They boast pretty and quirky modified English arm sofa style and will make any living room proud. You can downplay them by using neutral velvet fabric. If you want more color in the room, go for a brighter one or accent pillows.
Cushy, Plain Jane, Wally, and Vera
I can see Cushy, Plain Jane, Wally and Vera in a fashionista apartment with quirky furniture and accents.
Knightsbridge, Battersea, and Shoreditch
If you want to stay more conservative but still have an interesting vibe in the living room, go for Knightsbridge, Battersea or Shoreditch.
Northbank and Berkley
For a larger space use modified chesterfields, such as Northbank and Berkely. And if you need a small sofa with a feminine touch, try Clapham.
Knowing that you, my dear readers, might be interested to learn more than just admiring the quirky look of the sofas I decided to chat with Ruth Olbrych of Zaar Design Center, the authorized dealer of Comfy sofas in the USA. Ruth was very kind to answer my questions below.
My Interview with Ruth Olbrych, the distributor of Comfy Sofas
Marina: Many of my clients and readers are wary of buying a sofa without sitting on it first. How can they trust that the sofa will be comfortable for them?
Ruth: One thing I always bring attention to is seat depth, as the overall depth is noted on the site but seat depth isn’t. I let them know what said depth is on each piece and then advise that they check out the depth of a sofa/chair they already have at home to figure out what works for them. That alone I think is really important. If you are older, you don’t’ want it to be too low. But frankly what is “comfy” to one person is horrid to another.
Marina: How is your website helping people make easier decisions?
Ruth: Interesting question. I think our website does a decent job of presenting our company and our product and laying out the many styles available. Another thing is that we get testimonials that also show that we have a good track record. A handful of people do go in and “punch and click” without talking to me. But inevitably, after getting them in an estimate. Then we end up communicating and more often than not the order is tweaked according to their needs. However, It doesn’t really show how far we can customize. The “finishing touches” are noted but not readily seen. It says it in the FAQ but easily not seen. The good news is that a newly upgraded website is in the works!
Marina: What is the sofas’ construction?
Ruth: Frames are hardwood frames. Sinuous S springs, which is a good thing. Due to this type of sofa can’t have 8-way springs because that would ruin the whole look of it. But I have to say that we are using a very good quality wire for the springs.
Marina: Do you provide velvet sofa fabric samples? How many? What are the prices for a sample?
Ruth: Yes, you can order up to 5 velvet swatches free.
Marina: Do the samples show the fabric content?
Ruth: Sorry, no they don’t. They show the results of the durability rub test factor on them. All the fabrics are Italian made. The tag will also indicate if they are stain-resistant. The “weaves” indicate that they are a cotton/wool combo. Finally, here is the breakdown for the velvet fabrics: House Velvet: 100% polyester. In addition, it is stain-resistant and passed 100,000 double rubs durability test. Premium Velvet: 28% cotton 72% polyester. It is stain-resistant and passed 100,000 double rubs durability test.
Marina: What is the content difference between velvet and premium velvet?
Ruth: Because the premium velvet is a deeper pile it looks more luxurious.
Marina: How do they make the cushions what are the options?
Ruth: Ok, so our standard cushion is foam and fiberfill.
Marina: How can you clean a sofa?
Ruth: By simple dabbing with a sponge or damp cloth.
Marina: Is there a tax?
Ruth: No. Taxes, duties and such all included in the cost of the piece. However, customers in Canada have to add that into their costs.
