Should you Pick a Theme for Boys’s Room Decorating?

If you were searching for boys’ room decorating ideas while trying to make it last, avoid an adorable truck bed or a sailboat. The more you are head over heels with them now the more likely you’ll get tired of them. They sure look like fun! The only drawback is that it will only last for a few years before he grows out of it. This means that his cutest kid’s bedroom furniture will go on the Craig list at the prices that will bring you to tears.
If it is time for your little boy to make a move from the era of the dinosaurs and you want his room to last, themes are not a good idea.
So, be smart and make your boy’s room into a cozy, fun place with no themes attached. Your boy does not care as much as yourself about the look of his room, right? All he cares about is that his favorite toys are there.
His interests and obsessions will change very quickly as he grows, so think about boys’ bedrooms ideas that are easier on yourself and your wallet. This does not always mean that you should buy the cheapest stuff, but rather things of the best quality you can afford that are not “themed” and will last you longer. Well, of course, you can still choose inexpensive artwork and bedding depending on what he is into now, and then change them as his passion changes.
Here are some boys’ room decorating tips for ROOMS TO GROW with you kid:
Buy a full-size bed if space allows you instead of a twin size bed. It will take your boy to get used to it but he will be more comfortable later.
Paint the walls instead of wallpaper. You can paint stripes or create an accent wall of different colors to make it fun. It is much easier than repairing torn wallpaper. Check out here how to do it.
Get a good quality rug. Stay away from the ones with dinosaurs and puppies since you will get tired of them quickly.

I agree with you. Parents should invest more in-built in furniture like bookshelves and storage because it is something that their child can use even when they get older.
Great tips! I have to agree… after watching home makeover shows and every little boys or girls room having a ‘theme’ I would always think ‘but whats going to happen when they grow out of it’. For a room that will stand the test of time I think it’s best to stick to pieces that can easily be swapped and changed in a cost effective way.
I totally agree with you Marina, boys do not really care much about the look of their room. It’s really great that moms like me get reminded of this every now and then, so as to save us the added burden of redesigning our son’s room, buying new furniture, and looking for buyers for the old ones. By the way, the bookshelf looks really cool!
Well, they do not care…but so many times the little boys would proudly show it to their friends. Even this boy, the one whose room I designed, after it was finished, walked in and said,” MY woom wooks gweat!” I will never forget this moment because it was a lot of work but worth it.
