Timeless colors, such as teal and gold are perfect if you want to decorate a bedroom to last. And it doesn’t matter if these paint colors are trendy or not. That’s what my client thought when I pulled a couple of paint chips for her future master bedroom design.

since the furniture was already in the room picking the colors was the next step to pull it all together.
Here is a tip:
But before you run to a paint store think about your own furniture and accents colors first. In truth, you have to invest a little time in some planning. Because you don’t want to wake up the next day to discover that your comforter does not match, your curtains are wrong for the room and you need a new rug to be careful when selecting paint colors.
Finally, take these steps to make sure that your colors work in the room:
Here are the steps:
- Find out the location of the windows. Are they to the North or to the South? If your bedroom has northern exposure, you want to balance cool and warm colors. Cool colors are blues and greens; warm colors are yellows and browns. Many color experts say that if your windows are to the north, you should use warmer colors for the walls. I don’t agree with this. I like to go with natural light, so with North exposure (cool natural light), I use cool wall paint colors. and then bring in warmth with accessories and draperies just like I did with the project above.
- Decide what stays in the room and work with the existing colors. The last thing you want to do is to be stuck with paint color and not to be able to find coverlet or window treatments that work with it. You can decorate a bedroom with existing furniture and still give it a new life with accents and wall art. Because window treatments and bedding are more expensive than other accessories think of them first.
- Pick the main color that you love and create a color scheme. It is always better to create five colors in your color palette. This includes floor, bedding, accessories, millwork, and draperies. Choose one color out of five that stands out (accent color) and use it in small portions to make the room more exciting.
- Apply the paint in all four corners of the room. Look at it at a different time of day and night with natural and artificial lighting. When you decide on a color apply it during the day. You don’t want to have what I call “color hangover” and find out that your paint color looked totally different the night before.
And remember, there are many ways to decorate a bedroom but if you want it to be uniquely yours, listen to your intuition and don’t forget to plan.
